Him: Would you be my life partner for as long as God wills it?
Her: Err..are you serious?
Him: Yes, what do you say?
Her: *speechless*
Him: Hmm?
Her: Yes!
Said over the phone, parted by miles, but underneath the same night sky.
Fairy Tales aren't Always Make Belief, are They?
The jolly season was nearing and the place was overcrowded with people. Miniature Santas hung from shop ceilings and cotton snowballs covered the stair railings. Jingles were played on repeat and she could've sworn she heard Jessica Simpsons' Let It Snow at least four times already. The air was nothing but merry. They walked through the sea of people, popping in every other store to pass the time.
But you see, that was more a year ago and all that has become nothing more than a very distant memory, still hanging on the tiniest branch for the sake of what even she couldn't say. Indeed, much had happened during the months; there were joy and laughter, there were also frustration and tears. That's just the terms of living isn't it anyways? They had courted and they had parted. She had experienced and she had lived, most importantly she had grown and outgrown the feeling of needing him. It truly was a blessing, she always thought.
One day, as she rummaged her wardrobe for something perfect to wear to the little meet, it suddenly occured to her that she needn't have to be perfect at all. She had of course long realised how very faraway she is from perfection, but the beauty of the thought was that she knew now that she didn't need to build up a plastic barbie anymore. There was now no reason to appear at all attractive because she no longer wished to attract him, no not anymore. So, she kicked off the hellish heels and pulled off the little blue dress and instead, dived into a pair of jeans and sneakers and jersey - it felt nothing but right. That was enough.
During the short drive, she went over the minimal conversations they've had after the 'us' had turned back to the 'you' and 'I'. Not that there was much pondering to do, but the least she thought she would do was to try to recall something she could use to keep the dinner later from turning an awkward pause of idea. Not much luck. To cut things short, they met, they ate, they drove, they chatted, and they said goodbye. By the end of the day, she was surprised she ever liked him at all.
It's funny how life makes you look stupid before you realise you were looking stupid.
